A newer more advanced technology using vibration stimulus emerged late in the year 2000 and became known as Whole Body Vibration (WBV) training. It’s actually not that new as the technology was developed in the 1960’s by scientist working on the prevention of osteoporosis. At that time it was known as Rhythmic Neuromuscular Stimulation and was also used to train astronauts to help them in micro-gravity. It was then adapted to train high performance athletes and today is used at the high school, collegiate and pro levels. The Journal of Sports Sciences fully endorses vibration training stating that lifting weights when using a vibration plate can double the benefits of strength training.
 
All you need to get started is a vibration training machine or plate. In the US the cost of these units runs from around a thousand dollars each ranging in price up to ten thousand dollars a piece. How it works is that when you stand on the vibrating plate it sends pulses of energy up into the body and depending on which frequency the machine is set to will stimulate specific muscle groups. The vibration forces the muscles to contract from 10 to 60 times per second. So you will get a work out simply by standing still. If you incorporate a weight training program simultaneously you can expect dramatic increases in muscle strength and tone, increased flexibility, speed and power. This low impact form of exercise makes it possible to condense a one hour work out into 10 minutes with less stress and fatigue on your muscular skeletal system.
 
As well as being used by athletes of all levels the vibration plate has become a very valuable tool in sports rehabilitation and personal training. This technology has also proven effective for weight loss, increased balance and mobility, improved circulation and stimulating hormone regeneration as well as aiding in the anti aging process and contributes to general overall wellbeing. It is not recommended for use by those who are under the age of 16, diabetic, epileptic, pregnant, or have heart disease.
